Architects misuse title. The RIAI successfully undertook its first prosecution for misuse of the title architect in the Dublin District Court on Monday 14 December 2015.
The RIAI Professional Standards Officer was one of two witnesses and gave evidence that the Defendant, who was not registered as an architect, had submitted documents to Dublin City Council Planning Department wherein he had used the title architect implying that he was registered.
The second witness, from Dublin City Council’s Planning Department, confirmed that the document had been submitted to the City Council.
Judge John O’Neill convicted the Defendant pursuant to section 18(1)(a) of the Building Control Act 2007 and imposed a fine of €1,500.
The Defendant was also ordered to pay €1,500 plus VAT in legal costs to the RIAI.
